The professional. The person. The conversation.
If you lead organizations, shape policy, or care about Latin America’s economic future, you’ve probably spent time, as I have, looking for people who share that conviction and have actually been inside the room — not a consultant’s framework, but someone who built something real and will tell you honestly what it took. I’m one of those people. I’d love to compare notes.
That’s the starting point. Pull up a chair.

Why I’m worth reading.
I spent over forty years as an executive in Latin America — including fourteen years building Amazon in Costa Rica and Latam from a 500-person customer service center into an operation of more than 18,000 people in Costa Rica, with another 4,000 under my leadership in Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. Before Amazon, I ran GE for Central America and the Caribbean, and I spent years at CINDE, the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, helping build the foreign investment model that transformed Costa Rica’s economy.
I was, to be honest, mostly lucky — I happened to be in the right places at the right moments. But I paid attention, and I learned things that don’t show up in business school. I’m still learning. That’s partly why I’m writing.

What I write about and why it matters.
My conviction is simple: Latin America’s path to prosperity runs through a deliberate, courageous climb up the value chain. The region has extraordinary talent, a track record of economic transformation, and leaders who understand what’s at stake. What it often lacks is the clarity to see the next step — and voices who will say so directly, without sugarcoating.
I write about economic development, leadership, and education because those are the three levers that, pulled together, actually move the needle. My articles are aimed at the people who pull them — and I’m most interested in the ones who push back.

The person.
I’m a Costa Rican, a sailor, a skier, a hiker, and a single father of three. I’ve always chased the edge of the map, which is why when I left the corporate world I went looking for a new adventure. I tried consulting. I looked at board seats. The first two didn’t take. Writing did — and here we are.

What you’ll find here — and what I’d like from you.
Articles in Spanish and English on the ideas Latin America’s leaders need to engage with. Some will challenge assumptions you hold. Some will tell stories that haven’t been told before. None of them are meant as the last word.
The conversations that follow the articles are, honestly, the best part. If something resonates — or if you think I’ve got it wrong — I want to hear it. I read everything, and I reply when I can.
